Alpine Touring Skis
We maintain a fleet of high end rental skis available at the Hokkaido Backcountry Club office. All skis are well suited to Japan powder conditions, are mounted with Alpine Touring bindings and come with fitted skins. Most skis are mounted with Marker Duke or Baron bindings so will work with regular alpine boots and perform well for lift accessed skiing as well as touring.
We do not have rental ski boots available and recommend you bring your own to avoid any fit issues. If you do need to rent boots, we recommend contacting Inski Niseko.
If you are on a guided Hokkaido Backcountry Club trip, we offer discounted rates of 10%.
If you are not booked on with Hokkaido Backcountry Club, please click here for rental rates.
If you`re a snowboarder and planning to travel in the backcountry, its time to hang up the snowshoes and get on a splitboard. Particularly in deep hokkaido powder, snowshoes just don`t cut it and you`ll be regretting your decision when skiers travelling on skins start lapping past you. BDT has a fleet of Burton and Jones splitboards available for rent. All splitboards are provided with Sparks bindings and fitted Sparks skins.
If you are on a guided BDT trip, we offer discounted rates of 10%.
If you are not booked on a Black Diamond Tour, please click here for rental rates.
We do accept advance payment for rental skis but due to the limited size of our stock we cannot guarantee availability of any specific ski or size on any given day. In the event that we don’t have a suitable ski or correct size to fit you (or if you just don’t like what we have) then we will refund in full less any transaction fees.
Pick up and Return Policy
Our office is open from 8am to 6pm daily. For rentals picked up after 3pm the first charged day of rental will be the following day. All skis are due back at the office before 6pm on the final day of paid rental. For guests travelling on our multi-day trips, we will charge only for the ski days of the trip (not arrival and departure days) and will get you set up as soon as you arrive in town and are able to get to our office. Also if your trip does not finish in Niseko, your guide will bring the equipment back to Niseko after the conclusion of the last guided ski day at no extra charge.
Headed into the backcountry on your own? Remember that as soon as you leave the designated ski runs there is no patrol and no avalanche control (areas accessed via Niseko’s gate system included) and you should be prepared for self rescue at any time. If you don’t have the necessary equipment, we offer the the same rates as above to all visitors, even those not booked on our trips.
Please note that while carrying avalanche safety equipment is one of the most basic requirements for safe backcountry travel it is useless without knowledge of how to use it. Even more importantly it is critical that you have the experience and skill to travel safely in avalanche terrain as the true goal is to never use your rescue equipment. Hokkaido Backcountry Club accepts no responsibility for decisions you may make or situations / incidents that may occur in the backcountry while travelling with our rental gear. Any advice or tips offered by Hokkaido Backcountry Club staff at the time of rental is no replacement for your own sound judgement and experience.
If you are unfamiliar with this equipment and/or new to backcountry travel, please either join us on a backcountry tour or get educated with one of our Avalanche Skills Training course. Whether on a course or guided tour, our experienced guides will explain the gear and ensure educated terrain choices.
